After the Fast - Days One and Two

Published by Jonni under Fast Weight Loss Tips

Weight lost in two days after the fast - 1 pound
Total lost so far - 12 pounds

Well, I conducted a four day fast, and I’m now writing this in the morning three days later. Although this experiment was originally intended to prove (or disprove) the claim that a fast can help curb sugar cravings and other food obsessions, I learned a lot more than I bargained for.

The most surprising thing is that I wasn’t hungry after I started eating again. In fact, I’m still not really hungry, although I enjoyed my fruit this morning, and I’m looking forward to a big salad for lunch, with some grilled chicken tossed on top. However, I am not ravenously hungry, nor am I having any difficulty controlling my appetite. And the fruit I’m eating in the morning seems to be taking care of any desire I might have for something sweet

I really expected to feel some hunger -either during the fast or afterwards. Since I didn’t, I decided to do some reading and find out why.

Water Fasting - Day 4

Published by Jonni under Fast Weight Loss Tips

Weight lost on day four - 2 pounds
Total lost so far - 11 pounds

Well, day four is turning out to be the last day of my “five day fast.” The weakness I felt when I woke up did not go away even after my morning walk with the dog, and it felt like time to call it quits. I believe in listening to my body when I do these experiments - no reason to take things too far and stop enjoying the process.

But I learned a great deal from my four day experiment. For one thing, I learned that it’s a fairly easy thing to lose 11 pounds (a guy would have lost more, of course), and you can do it safely, without taking any of those crazy drugs that claim to increase your metabolism and cause you to lose weight, no matter what you eat. Water Fasting - Day 3

Published by Jonni under Fast Weight Loss Tips

Weight lost on day three - 3 pounds
Total lost so far - 9 pounds

Nothing special happened yesterday. After the slight wooziness when I woke up, everything went back to normal. I even stopped getting those mental pictures of food, like I did on the second day.

I’m simply not hungry. I know that all the experts on fasting say that happens, but I don’t believe everything I read… I don’t suppose I should be such a skeptic, since fasting has been used for healing and spiritual reasons for thousands of years. But I still like to see for myself. Continue Reading »

Water Fasting, Day 2

Published by Jonni under Fast Weight Loss Tips

Weight loss on day two - 3 pounds
Total lost so far - 6 pounds

Yesterday was another normal day, except for not eating anything. The caffeine headache was gone by afternoon, and I enjoyed a walk downtown to pick up a few gifts from Sunflower books. (My dog loves this fast, because Dr. Allan Cott, in his book Fasting as a Way of Life, insists on one hour of walking every day during the fast. That means my trusting companion gets an extra walk in the middle of the day - a treat he seems to greatly appreciate. Continue Reading »

Water Fasting - Day 1

Published by Jonni under Fast Weight Loss Tips

Weight loss on Day One - 3 pounds.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I decided (rather on a whim, actually), to start a 5-day water fast. My intention is to personally test a claim made by Allan Cott, MD., in his book Fasting as a Way of Life.

Dr. Cott claimed that fasting (water fasting, not juice fasting), is beneficial to anyone addicted to a harmful substance, like alcohol or other drugs, because the body will reject these drugs after a fast. He also claimed that a person who fasts is less likely to return to old, bad eating habits, because the cleansing process that happens naturally during a water fast will make your body abhor all toxins - like refined sugar and other processed foods.

So, is he right? I decided to find out. Continue Reading »
