Losing That Extra Weight After Pregnancy - Some Tips

Published by Jonni under Natural Weight Loss Tips

Every woman gains weight when she’s pregnant, and many women lose all the extra pounds soon after the baby is born. For others, though, every new child adds an additonal 10 to 25 pounds that seems almost impossible to get rid of. Until you’ve actually been pregnant there doesn’t seem to be any way of knowing if you’ll be one of the lucky ones - or not.

If you already know that you tend to put on weight during a pregnancy because you never really lot the extra pounds after your last baby was born, it’s a good idea to discuss the issue with your doctor during your prenatal visits. Even if you can’t eat the way you know you shoud because of the various hormone changes, weird food urges, and the lower rate of exercise that most of us get when we’re carrying a baby in the womb, you’ll still want to make sure you’re getting as many nutrients as you need.

If you have “morning” sickness all day long, ice cream might be the only thing you can get yourself to eat, but your doctor might have some suggestions that make it easier to eat a few veggies, too. And she’ll prescribe the vitamins and minerals that you might be missing if you aren’t eating right. Continue Reading »

Why Eating Right May Be More Important Than Dieting

Published by Jonni under Natural Weight Loss Tips

Last weekend I read a fascinating book called The Longevity Diet, by Brian M. Delaney and Lisa Walford. Don’t let the word “diet” in the title fool you - this is not a book about losing weight, although the people following the guidelines in the book are almost all thinner than the average American. I learned about the book when I found The Calorie Restriction Society website.

The book is based on years of research done on the aging process, mostly with animals such as mice and other laboratory animals. Dr. Roy L. Walford, one of the authors’ father, was on the forefront of this research. Dr. Walford and other scientists in laboratories and universities around the world have proven that it is possible to increase the lifespan of laboratory animals of all species studied - often as much as 60%, by feeding them diets high in nutrition but low in calories. Weight Loss - The Disconnect Between Thinking, Will and Action

Published by Jonni under Natural Weight Loss Tips

I’ve been neglecting this blog for several weeks in order to concentrate on preparing my garden for this year’s crop. So it seems appropriate to begin this post with a quote from Rudolph Steiner, the brilliant scientist and holistic thinker who developed the concepts used in biodynamic farming.

When asked why people have such difficulty in remaining committed to healthy goals, Steiner responded that:

This is a problem of nutrition. Nutrition as it is today does not supply the strength necessary for manifesting the spirit in physical life. A bridge can no longer be built from thinking to will and action. Food plants no longer contain the forces people need for this.

My Top Ten Weight Loss Tips, Part 3

Published by Jonni under Natural Weight Loss Tips

Well, it’s taken a while for me to get back to this list of weight loss tips, but I have an excuse. I spent a week visiting my daughter, who is expecting her first child in 6 1/2 weeks (but who’s counting?)

Weight loss tip #9: Keep a journal. I know you’ve heard this one before, and you may have already tried it and then given up. Many people get tired of writing things down all the time, even though it does help you lose weight (it makes you more conscious of what you eat, and less anxious to eat something fattening if you have to admit to it on paper).
